Bisi bele bhath (bisi bēle bhāt) (Kannada: ಬಿಸಿ ಬೇಳೆ ಭಾತ್) or Bisi Bele Huliyanna (ಬಿಸಿಬೇಳೆಹುಳಿಯನ್ನ) is a spicy, rice-based dish with origins in the state of Karnataka, India. It is said to have originated in the Mysore Palace and from there spread across the state of Karnataka. Bisi bele bath recipe (stovetop & Instant pot options). Also known as Bisi Bele huli anna, it is one of the traditional Karnataka recipes that is prepared in most Kannada speaking homes.
Instructions to make Quinoa bisi bele bhat:
- Wash quinova with fresh water 3 to 4 times and keep aside. Wash the dal and keep aside.
- Heat a pressure pan with 2 tbsp oil. Temper with mustard seeds, broken red chilli and curry leaves.
- Now add the chopped vegetables. Potatoes, beans, carrots in order. Saute for few seconds. Now add the remaining vegetables and saute.
- Add the quinova and tuwar dal. Mix.
- Add the spice powders and salt to season and tamarind paste.
- Add water and pressure cook for 4 to 5 whistles.
- Let the pressure release naturally then open. It should have a little thin consistency else can add little water and simmer for few minutes.
- Now add ghee and chopped coriander.
- Serve immediately.
