  1. Get for masala powder:
  2. Make ready 2 spoons urad dal
  3. Make ready 2 spoons chanadal
  4. Take 1 spoon dhaniya powder
  5. Prepare 2 cloves
  6. Take 1 inch cinnamon
  7. Prepare 2 cardamom pods
  8. Get 1 marathi moggu
  9. Prepare 5 red chillies (adjust according to spice)
  10. Get 3 spoons dry coconut
  11. Prepare 2 onions sliced/ 10 shallots baby onions
  12. Get 2 tomatoes cubed
  13. Take 1 spoon Tamarind paste
  14. Get as required Salt as required

  18. Make ready 1/2 cup toor dal
  19. Prepare 1 spoon Moong Dal
  20. Take 6 cups water

Steps to make Sambhar rice:
  1. Add the ingredients of the masala powder except dry coconut into a pan and roast it until golden colour with a spoon of oil. In a mixer jar first grind dry coconut and then add the roasted ingredients and grind it to a fine powder.
  2. Wash and Cut all the veggies as shown in the pic. Into a pressure cooker add in oil and mustard seeds and let it splutter. Now add in the sliced onions, curry leaves and sauté.
  3. Add in all the veggies, tomatoes and green peas and fry for 2 minutes. Add in the Tamarind paste and sauté.
  4. Add in the masala powder and mix well. Now add in the washed rice and dal to it and add required amount of salt. Add the water and a spoon of ghee and pressure cook it for 2 whistles.
  5. Allow the pressure to release and mix it up. Serve it hot with Aloo chips and Kara Boondi or Appalam.
